Meet Marian Hrynyshyn

Marian Hrynyshyn is a dynamic and versatile artist — flutist, saxophonist, vocalist, and producer.

Originally from Ukraine and now based in Vancouver, Canada, Marian began playing the Ukrainian sopilka and flute at age seven. In 2014, he was admitted to the National Conservatory of Lviv, but his passion for the French flute tradition led him to continue his studies in France, earning degrees from Paris-Sorbonne University (Paris IV), Toulouse — Jean Jaurès University, and the Institut Supérieur des Arts de Toulouse. He has won multiple prizes in international flute competitions across Ukraine and Europe.

Marian performed as second and first solo flute with several professional orchestras in France, and remains deeply passionate about chamber music — performing with numerous ensembles and as a soloist. Alongside his classical training, he developed a strong passion for jazz, performing as a saxophonist across ensembles, private events, and festivals, and collaborating with diverse formations to explore improvisation and modern technique.

Beyond the stage, Marian holds a degree in music management and production, and has worked in production and technical management for institutions including the Opéra de Paris, Radio France, the CNSM de Paris, and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.

Today, Marian continues his artistic career through his projects Sopilkar and Marko Hrynyshyn, while leading SopilkArt Entertainment — the company he founded to bring the same precision, care, and passion for organization that define his artistry to every event he produces. Shaped by his Ukrainian roots and years immersed in France's musical culture, Marian draws on this rich, multicultural heritage to create a sound that is distinctly his own. He continues to introduce audiences to the largely undiscovered world music, blending it with electronic production and unconventional songwriting to craft performances unlike anything else.

Artistic Projects

Marko Hrynyshyn is a forward-thinking project whose performances bridge tradition and innovation — blending deep house electronic music with live saxophone to create something entirely his own.

"Electronic music is the future. Every track has to bring something new — a new way to reach the listener. Live saxophone is how I express that in real time, pushing the instrument's sound through innovative effects and expanding what it can be beyond traditional boundaries."

Deeply inspired by global culture and contemporary soundscapes, Marko continues to refine his artistic voice by blending classical, jazz, folk, and electronic elements. The result is a distinctive, genre-crossing sound that reimagines traditional influences within a modern musical context.

Sopilkar

Sopilkar is the artistic project of Marian Hrynyshyn, a Ukrainian artist based in Vancouver, Canada. Rooted in his Ukrainian upbringing and shaped by his years in Europe, his sound blends classical, jazz, electronic, and world music into one fluid, expressive voice.

Through Sopilkar, he takes forgotten Ukrainian songs and melodies and gives them new life — arranging them with modern technology and blending folk tradition with electronic music to create an atmospheric, contemporary sound.

"The Ukrainian language and Ukrainian songs are one of the most beautiful heritages in the world. Deeply touched and raised within this culture, I share that with my audience through Sopilkar."

His work is driven by one goal: sharing Ukrainian musical identity with the world.
